There is no fuel for sale inside the recreation area. Everything you burn gets bought before you turn off the highway.
No fuel inside the recreation area
Little Sahara has drinking water and restrooms. It does not have a gas station, a store, or a mechanic. Fill the tow vehicle and every can before the turnoff.
Estimate your weekend
Dune riding burns fuel far faster than trail riding, because soft sand means sustained high load. This is a rough planning estimate, not a guarantee.
Where to fill up
Eureka
The nearest town and the Visitor Center's mailing address, on US 6. Small and historic, so good for a top-off but not a full resupply.
Delta
About 38 miles away and the closest larger town on the Sevier Desert side, with gas stations, groceries, restaurants, and lodging.
Carrying fuel safely
- Use approved fuel containers, secured so they cannot shift or tip in transit
- Store cans out of direct sun at camp, because heat builds pressure fast in the desert
- Never refuel a hot machine; let it cool first
- Keep a fire extinguisher accessible at camp
- Carry more than one day's worth if you are staying the weekend
