Solid markers sit on coordinates published by BLM or recorded in OpenStreetMap. Faded, dashed markers are approximate anchors placed from written descriptions. Every popup says which it is and where the figure came from.

Toggle what you need
Use the control in the top right to switch between satellite imagery and a topographic base, and to turn categories on and off. Gateway towns are off by default because they sit tens of miles outside the recreation area.
Do not rely on this, or your phone, for navigation
Cell service inside the recreation area is limited and unreliable, and the Wi-Fi at the Visitor Center reaches Recreation.gov only. Download the official BLM area map before you arrive and carry a paper copy.
Where these coordinates came from
The four campground coordinates are published by BLM. Sand Mountain, Sand Hills, Black Mountain, Buttercup, and the Rockwell area come from OpenStreetMap. The Visitor Center, the beginner dunes, the White Sand Dunes riding area, and Jericho Junction are approximate, placed from BLM's written descriptions.
The Rockwell circle shows roughly how much ground is closed to vehicles, sized to BLM's stated 9,000 acres. It is not the legal boundary, which is signed on the ground.
